Mikhail V. Khmara

Brief biography
Mikhail V. Khmara graduated from St. Petersburg State Technical University in 1994 holding a M.Sc, with distinction, in physics of solid state. He is a registered patent attorney before the Russian Patent and Trademark Office.

Before entering the IP practice, Mr. Khmara was a materials researcher at Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute, Saint-Petersburg. Here he conducted development and qualification programs for superconductors and semiconductors, and was responsible for testing and analyzing doping elements, alloyed junctions, recovery of metals, rapture stress and fatigue.

As an associate in Saint-Petersburg office of ARS-Patent, Mr. Khmara centers his patent practice around the drafting of patent applications and the prosecution of applications to grant in Russia and foreign jurisdictions, handling patent oppositions from filing through to presenting cases in hearings before the Russian PTO. He particularly enjoys using his technical background to complete patent work in a variety of fields from metallurgy and materials science-based technologies, to medical implants and devices, electronic circuitry, semiconductor devices, optical communications, new materials and coatings.

In addition to patent work, Mr. Khmara has had a substantial practice in complex trademark registration matters and related appeals, negotiating, drafting and recording trademark license, consent, assignment agreements, and counseling in connection with unfair competition.
