Elena A. Solovyova (Zaitseva)

Brief biography
Brief Biography Elena A. Solovyova (Zaitseva) is a partner in Moscow office of ARS-Patent. She holds a bachelor's degree from Moscow State Technical University and a master's degree from St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University, both with an emphasis in communications (1985 and 1990, respectively), a degree of patent agent and Ph.D. in jurisprudence from the Russian Institute of Intellectual Property. Ms. Solovyova is a registered Patent Attorney admitted to practice before the Russian Patent and Trademark Office, also is licensed to practice law. Before 1994, when she became a co-founder of ARS-Patent, Ms. Solovyova had an extensive patent practice in a wide diversity of technologies, with a special interest in modulated carrier systems, radio and television. Her legal training provided excellent experience in drafting and negotiating licenses and assignment agreements to help inventors and corporations realize the full value of their intangible rights. Ms. Solovyova's previous work experience includes Cincinnati, Ohio and Helsinki, Finland based IP law firms where she received substantial knowledge in virtually all phases of trademark practice including the preparation of opinions on the availability and registrability of marks and the filing and prosecution of applications for registration at the state level and internationally. As a Chair of Trademark Group in ARS-Patent, her focus is made on all stages of trademark prosecution as well as on intellectual property litigation. Ms. Solovyova is engaged in a variety of trademark disputes, including opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Board of Appeals and the Higher Patent Chamber, and civil actions based upon allegations of infringement and unfair competition. Besides aggressively litigating matters, she assists clients in avoiding litigation through clear and sound legal advice about proposed transactions. Ms. Solovyova is a frequent lecturer on topics including trademark registration process, the Russian PTO practice, copyright issues, and has numerous scientific works mainly devoted to legal aspects of well-known marks protection in the Russian Federation and CIS countries. In addition, Ms. Solovyova is a member of St. Petersburg Patent Attorneys Bar, AIPPI and INTA. Being a native of Moscow but had resided for the most part of her life in St. Petersburg, she recently returned to the Russian capital to manage the newly established Moscow office.
